Chris Martin Update

I had the chance to speak with Chris Martin for a second time this week as he prepares for a college visit and he shared some news about his recruitment.

Chris and his DC Assault team found more success as the summer wore on, in Las Vegas and Phoenix. “We started to play a lot better, in Vegas we lost to the championship team in the quarterfinals and in Phoenix we beat Memphis Magic. And I hit the game winner against Tony Wroten’s team.”

As DCA found their way, Martin found his first scholarship offer, from hometown George Mason. Which Chris will visit this Wednesday. “I’ve been there once, I like the school, it’s not too big, not too small, perfect size. At the game I went to I liked the school atmosphere, and I like Coach Larranaga a lot, hes pushes his players and it’s good school academically. It looks like a good fit for me. I do prefer getting away but I’ll be fine with that (staying home).

There have been no changes to his school list as George Mason sits in a list with; NC State, Georgetown, Villanova and Wake Forest.

On the other local school; “I like Georgetown, people try to compare me to my father, so I look at it as motivation, I’d have a good career there, too. I like coach Thompson a lot.”

As far as attention in a major conference versus the Colonial, “The Big east and Acc obviously are more recognized but if I go anywhere and have success that takes care of itself.”

Chris, a junior to be at Saint John’s High, starts school next Wednesday with the goal of the upcoming season stated again to finish in the top four of the WCAC, as he expects Gonzaga, O’Connell and Demtha to be tough competition once again. Personally for Chris, “Becoming a leader, shutting my man down. Those are the two main things, everything else needs work. That’ll probably determine what school I go to.”
