Chris Lowery, took over a solid Southern Illinois program and capitalized early on. Winning; 27, 22 and 29 games his first three seasons. While accumulating 3 NCAA tournament wins.
Lowery accomplished all that while in his mid 30’s, making him a hot young name on the coaching trail. The past two seasons he has not fared quite as well dropping to 18 and 13 wins the past two seasons.
The question now is, did Lowery benefit from a program with the cupboard filled, or is he still a solid coach who saw some down years, which can happen to any program. I tend to think it is the latter and while coaching on the US team this summer, he was quoted by Andy Katz that he learned to take a step back and see the big picture in running a program.
