Mike Rice Jr, a Fordham alum where he spent his playing career from 1988-1991 has taken the reigns of the Robert Morris program at the current age of 40.
This is a name that may fly up a ranking list such as this in the near future. In his two seasons as head coach RMU has posted records of 26-8 and 24-11. Resulting in an NIT trip in 2008 and and NCAA Appearance in 2009.
Robert Morris has been competitive in games against high major talent in his tenure, including an 6 point loss to Syracuse in the NIT and an 8 point loss on the road at Miami this past season. Even in the tournament this season kept it to a 15 point margin against eventual runner up, Michigan State.
From 2004-2006, Rice served as an assistant under Phil Martelli at St. Joseph’s, and from 2006 to 2007 at Pitt under Jamie Dixon.
