PROVIDENCE, R.I. (BIGEAST.org) – The BIG EAST Conference has announced the league opponents and game sites for its men’s basketball teams for the 2009-10 season.

In 2009-10, the BIG EAST will play an 18-game conference schedule, allowing teams to face 12 opponents once and three opponents twice. It will mark the third year of the 18-game schedule, which began for the 2007-08 season. All 144 regular-season conference games will again be televised, either by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television.

In 2007-08, the BIG EAST tied its own NCAA record by placing eight schools into the NCAA Championship. This past season, the BIG EAST advanced seven teams to the NCAAs. The conference was the first to have five teams reach the NCAA regional semifinals and the first to have four squads reach the regional finals. Connecticut and Villanova advanced to the Final Four.

The decisions regarding repeat opponents are based on natural interest, geography, rivalries, television contractual obligations and competitive balance.

The full 2009-10 conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
